Why digsby is better than Pidgin:

Like he said. Mostly same, and both are great, but - twitter/facebook are a better integrated, and I have more actions than just instant messaging with facebook.

AND

Digsby has a seriously cool website widget which allows you to chat with people who visit a (*your) website.

thanks for the update, I was taking about Digsby on Linux before. Mercury will probably run very well if its programmed in Java. it does look like a nice IM client but doesn't seem to have the social networking features of Digsby. If it was open source that could be changed but it doesn't appear to be.

try "mercury.im" on the browser for mercury. It definitely duns well on linux. It's definitely slowish, but I think that's just cause it's a Java application, but it's also able to run basically anywhere.

If it doesn't run on linux, try checking your Jaava versions.

cheers!

@Emiliano I have never heard of Mercury, I'll have to check it out, thanks for the info!

-- another update --
I'm going to give this a shot on Fedora and see if I can get it working well. Slackware is a bit of a pain, and it could be XFCE acting up. I'm also going to try getting Digsby working with KDE.

There is no real advantage to chat. I use pidgin on a daily basis. The place where Digsby is interesting for me is the Social Network integration such as Twitter, Facebook. It also has Voice and video chat which Pidgin does not have out of the box.
